If You See Me When I Am Taken The Double Portion Will Be Yours

Fifty men of the company of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing the place where Elijah and Elisha had stopped at the Jordan. Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground. When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?” “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied. “You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah said, “yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise not.” 2 Kings 2:7-10

The story of Elijah and Elisha is one of the best mentor / mentee relationships found in scripture. Elijah takes Elisha on a journey before the Lord takes him away. They make several stops along the way at Gilgal, Bethel, Jericho, and The Jordan River. At each of these stops, Elijah urges Elisha to stay there. Elisha refuses because he wants a double portion of what Elijah has. Any of those stops would have been a great place for Elisha to stay, but he would have missed getting a double portion blessing from Elijah. If you study the life of Elisha, he did twice as many miracles than his predecessor Elijah.

I hope you will join us at Encounter this Friday. I am going to teach on how you can get the double portion blessing if you never take your eyes off of Jesus and not me. I have a major announcement to make and hope you are there in person to hear it. We have a great service planned and look forward to seeing you all back at Encounter!

Be Blessed and Encouraged
